Associate Vice President, Design and Construction

Richard JonesRichard K. Jones is the Associate Vice President for Design & Construction at the University of Miami. He is responsible for the department's operations as well as oversight of project management for the design and construction of all major healthcare, lab buildings, research, academic, support facilities and infrastructure construction projects on all campuses. Mr. Jones also serves as the Architect of Record for the University.

Mr. Jones is currently responsible for over $1B of capital and non-capital projects in various stages including new construction and renovation projects.  He is also responsible for planning activities, architectural design review, construction grant preparation, department quality management, office of the University Architect, interiors, branding, and building standards.

He oversees the University's green building initiative across all campuses, which has resulted in over 1.4M square feet of LEED certified UM buildings to date and another 800K square feet in the pipeline. 

Mr. Jones received his BARCH from the University of Miami, School of Architecture in 1991 and his MBA from the University of Miami, School of Business in 2001.  He is a registered architect and has practiced architecture in the Miami area for over 28 years. His experience includes a wide range of institutional, commercial, healthcare and residential projects. He practiced at several local architectural firms before he joined the University of Miami in 1996. Since joining UM, he has overseen over 2,500 projects totaling approximately $3B.

Mr. Jones is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Construction Owners Association of America, and the US Green Building Council.
